It's always difficult to answer things like this.  Would I have a rapist use a gun in a story?  Probably not; the need to use a distance-effective weapon against his victim implies a lack of confidence in his ability to subdue under most circumstances.  More realistically, the presence of a firearm and the possibility of instant and possibly lethal violence would certainly be an effective tool in subduing a victim.

I'll try to explain from my male/sadist/Dom POV!
