Today at work

Today, sitting in a team meeting, 10.20am.

As my senior manager starts talking of sales targets and system issues I shift in my seat; to force my own awareness of my full bladder. A little self inflicted agony, to get me through the rest of the meeting. my muscles are forced to contract to control myself, a ripple of exquisite agony rushes over my lower body.
All my muscles dance in a delightful symphony of clenching and relaxing.
"Back straight, tummy in" I tell myself in the voice that often speaks to me. A voice that's been inside my head since childhood.
I move to sit straighter in my chair, move my arms behind the chair back and gently grip my wrists. I would like to dig my nails in, but I can't risk that, there's another 12 people around the table.
I slowly, subtly, bite my bottom lip and close my eyes to help hold back the natural urge to excuse myself and go to the bathroom.
This new position pushes my bladder into the waist band of my tight work trousers. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I feel my nipples crinkle and stand to attention under my bra.
I breathe in slowly and pull my stomach taut, shoulders back. A slow sigh escapes my lips. My eyes snap open, Panic. Did any one notice?
No. Every one else lives in a different universe to me, a universe I'm forced into for most of my waking day.
My eyes re-close, my mind wonders back to the new place I can go to when I get home. In the evenings when my forced universe is suspended just long enough to catch a glimpse at a place where people play and the voice inside my head is flesh, make solid in the words of others. That place is here.

P.S.  Regarding Spray's suggestion, I think itching powder, though perhaps a little trite, is both more discrete and more ... intimate.  :)

How could one possibly take more pain than just a staff meeting? You must be a tough one, indeed.

Oh and today I experimented. Paper clips do make very good DIY nipple clamps if you’re board in the stationary cupboard...
