This poll reminds me of that line that Quixote keeps repeating about people who only take one thing from a salad bar.  I say, why choose?  I'd love them all!

Good point re the poll.

I think you've only said it three or four times - but having watched a bit of the Games last night, it just struck me as very apt.

I'm feeling very anti-Olympics at the moment.

I don't think the Olympics should be in countries quite THAT totalitarian.

Mind you, most of the time I kind of think the Olympics should take place in Greece every time and only have the original events, but that's because I'm fairly silly.

I will agree with Conwic to this extent. I remain true to my love of beach volleyball players, although they beat swimmers narrowly. But it truly amazes me that Conwic's eloquence in arguing the case for swimmers is not reflected in a larger number of votes.

Would your desire to capture the original spirit of the Olympics go so far as to embrace the idea of having athletes compete in the nude? If the athletes seen in the posts on this thread did compete in nude (As was the case in ancient Greece), would that cure you of your anti-Olympic feelings? Or am I the one now being silly?

As for China, I agree with you that the Olympic should have been held elsewhere, but at least the Chinese managed to make themselves look like the pack of totalitarian thugs they are.

The original Olympics were naked, but also all male.

Still, we can't turn our backs on ALL progress ... :-)

Also:  True what you say about China.

Do you mean the nudes?  The doggy style Beard is from Playboy.  The other nude is apparently from her ex-boy friend's collection. Aren't cell phones wonderful!  Don't remember where I found that one.  Saradas.com perhaps?

Personally, I though the ones of the swimmer in that see thru suit a lot sluttier than the nude.  After all, she was voluntarily wearing that suit to compete in front of who knows how many spectators. Being semi nude in public, something which would be an interesting humiliation for a shy young woman,  apparently is no more than an amusing tease for her.  Now that's slutty.

Maybe her coach made her wear that one for not working hard enough in training.

What a nice daydream.

Very nice daydream indeed. But why stop there.   How about " cut .4 seconds off your time or you all  swim the next relay race nude".  Make for an interesting scene at the awards ceremony after the race.

( Sigh) I can't believe that swimmers are still at two.

LOL- OK, I'll put that on my to do list- right behind " establish world peace."

It's the story of a young woman who sues to join the men's swim team at her college. She suceeds in her suit, but then finds she has to wear the same swim suit as the men, shower in the same locker room, and ultimately, pay a special penalty for dragging down the medly relay team's times.  ( The coach, Ivan "the terrible" Swensen assigned her the breast stroke leg  for some reason even though her specialty was the butterfly.)

conwic- who would like to read that story too.
