Floggers

I have a question for all the Doms and Dommes out there, but first a little background. I’m a whip nut. I used to braid and make singletails from leather and nylon paracord but had to stop due to arthritis and a bit of carpal tunnel problem. Now I make floggers. In the past, I’ve used a wood handle 12” long with leather lashes 18” long (Picture attached) and everyone has liked them. Some folks cut an inch or two off the lashes to suit their personal tastes, but in general, 16” to 18” seems to work nicely.

Recently, I’ve made some 8” wood handles, as several friends wanted something a little lighter or more compact.  Now I’m trying to figure out how long to make the lashes for the shorter handle. I’m pretty sure 18” is too long, because I’ve tried it.

So, my question is, how long do you think the lashes should be if the handle is 8” long?

Thanks for the compliment Quix. I'm hoping that people will at least give me some suggestions. If not, I'll just have to start at 18" and cut back an inch at a time until I like the way it swings.

BTW - That flogger is closer than you might think. I sent it to Violet for a field test.

Also BTW - the handle is white oak, painted black, and finished with polyurethane. It has other uses besides holding in your hand. LOL

And am not really sure about the length, maybe 13" or so?  No idea though.

For any that are interested, here's some information on the flogger concept.

Attached is a picture of the new flogger design. So far, I’ve made 4 heads for it, each with a different feel/bite. The head across the top is almost identical to the lashes on the flogger that I sent Violet and is kind of ‘middle of the road’ in intensity.

The flat strap lashes on the handle are heavy and will do the most damage if swung hard. Some real weight there!

The doeskin on the left is very soft and relatively light. Not enough weight to do much damage, but nice for warm-ups or for sensitive females that don’t want welts.

The string on the right side is deceptive. It doesn’t look like much but is stiff and hard and will leave welts with ease.

I’m considering a set of nylon paracord lashes for a different feel and to add some color to the flogger. I can get the paracord in a bunch of colors.

The heads can be changed in 20-30 seconds without tools. About 10 to 15 seconds to take one head off, and 10 to 15 seconds to put a new one on. I’ve modified the link between the swivel and the head from the one I sent Alebeard. This one is much easier to change.

Any suggestions for other heads? I’m open to experiment, since this is still a work in progress.

Eight latigo leather straps – 17” long – ½” wide – 2 mm thick – soft but heavy

Flogger head – right side
Twelve latigo leather strings – 14” long – 2 mm in diameter – stiff and hard

Flogger head – left side
Twelve doeskin leather lashes – 15” long – 1/8” wide – 2 mm thick – soft and supple

Flogger head – above
Twelve latigo laces – 17” long – 1/8” square – moderately stiff and somewhat heavy

Heads can be changed in about 20 – 30 seconds

Before you even ask - yes - the heads will go on your flogger just as they will on the handle above. Your flogger handle has the improved link between the handle and the head.

I've got a cat o' nine tails with an eight inch handle (not homemade, unfortunately), and its tails are 22".  I've used it to good effect.

Of course, it's got about two dozen tails, so that may make some difference . . .
